With his university studies behind him and a 1920s city apartment all to himself, Menne Bartelsman decided the time was ripe for a budget makeover.
The result is a playful home with heart that displays Menne’s love of “old pics, everything copper and more recently, stuffed animals”. A love of bathing is evident, too, with a classic tub taking pride of place in the living room – his creative solution to a too-small bathroom.
This sense of quirkiness is found throughout Menne’s home. “In every foreign city I visit, I like to go to an antique market and buy stuff,” he says. “I’m a romantic, with a desire for the past and the faraway, so an element of that comes back to my home.”

“When I have visitors, the favourite place to gather is definitely the kitchen table,” Menne says. The [Hay](http://www.hay.dk /?utm_campaign=supplier /|target=”_blank”) copper candleholder was a Christmas present; a sliced tree trunk acts as a decorative and functional coaster.

The hallway cabinet was a gift from Menne’s mother – he painted it grey and filled it with oddities, including dolls from South Africa.
