If the recent trailer drop is anything to go by, it seems that the 2021 season of The Block is just around the corner. While this would normally mean getting to know an entirely new batch of contestants, this year’s season will see the return of past Blockheads and entirely new faces, such as husband-and-wife team, Kirsty and Jesse.
But if you’re a fan of homegrown music, you may just recognise Kirsty as the ARIA award-winning and two-time Golden Guitar winner, country musician Kirsty Lee Akers. “I’ve been singing all my life, that’s my passion, my career and my life,” she says, adding, “I come from a musical family and it just comes naturally to me.”
Kirsty, who is obviously no stranger to winning, will be competing for the top bid alongside her husband, Jesse, a videographer and trained fitter and machinist.

HOW TALL IS KIRSTY LEE AKERS?
Kirsty Lee Akers is 144cm tall. In a 2017 Facebook post, the singer revealed she too was surprised to discover her actual height during a routine visit to her doctor. Prior to being measured at the doctor’s office, she was under the impression that she was 147cm tall.
“By law a child has to be in a car seat up until they are 145cm tall… looks like we are shopping for a booster seat tomorrow,” she joked to her followers.
Kirsty and Jesse picked up the renovating bug while they were still teenagers. They gave their first home a facelift and sold it for a profit of $60,000. Since then, they have flipped a total of six properties.
But is that enough experience to give them an edge over their competition, including past Blockheads Mitch and Mark and Ronnie and Georgia? Only time will tell, although they admit they’re big fans of Ronnie and Georgia’s style.
Jesse expects their strong work ethic to take them a long way. “We both come from nothing. We have humble beginnings, so real estate means a lot to us,” he says.
